Review: Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 PA+++

Hi everyone! I'll be reviewing a cult favorite BB cream. It's the Missha M Perfect Cover B.B Cream. It's going to be a long post so let's go ahead and start!

Product Description:

"Originally developed as a salve for patients after laser treatment, BB Cream’s soothing and regenerative properties were adapted for cosmetics to improve skin while providing coverage. The M Perfect Cover BB Cream is Missha’s most popular product with over 30 million sold worldwide. Combining cosmetics with skin care, this product promotes natural-looking coverage while providing sun protection, treating dark spots, and preventing wrinkles. The M Perfect Cover BB Cream is suitable for all skin types and can be used as a makeup base or foundation."

This BB cream claims that it gives excellent coverage while healing visible wrinkles and blemishes. It also claims to prevent skin aging through effective whitening and anti-wrinkle properties.

Features:

How to use:

  1. After your basic skin care routine, use a primer for an even base
  2. Pump out an appropriate amount of BB Cream (1 pump is usually more than sufficient)
  3. Dab product on cheeks, forehead, chin, and nose areas and use the tips of your fingers to lightly smooth product over face
  4. OR
  5. Lightly dab product with a sponge and smooth evenly over face
  6. Build coverage using leftover product by lightly tapping over any problem areas
  7. Set with powder for a matte finish if desired

These are the two sizes of the BB cream: the 50 ml and the 20 ml tube. They both have different packaging. The color of the 50 ml is more reddish orange while 20 ml tube is a dark red.

Here's how the box looks like. I only took photos of the 50 ml box because it has the same infos written on it with the 20 ml one. Sorry if the box looks so dirty, I pretty much had this for months.

The 50 ml tube has a pump yay! I'm pretty sure you ladies are pretty annoyed too when base products without a pump gets super messy.

One pump and squirt of BB cream. I definitely prefer the pump because it prevents the BB cream from getting all messy unlike with the nozzled 20 ml tube, the BB cream always finds it way out of the tube which leads to wastage and mess.

Swatch of the BB cream at the back of my hand. Like most BB creams, this shade have a gray neutral tone. It maybe a problem at first but it's fine if you plan on using this as a primer or you want to put powder on top.

Blended right in the back of my hand. This BB cream have a glowy, semi-matte finish. The consistency is very creamy. A problem that I encounter with this BB cream is its high SPF content. As we all know, wearing SPF is great when you're under the sun, but it's not such a good idea when you're planning to take photos especially when there's flash included because the SPF reflects or bounces off the light which can make your face white in photos. So just to put it out there, BB creams are made specifically to be used as an everyday base makeup.

Coverage test:

This BB cream claims 'Perfect Cover' or full coverage so let's test of it really does give full coverage. In the next series of photos I drew dots and lines at the back of my hand using a black liquid liner and I place an adequate amount of BB cream that will cover the dots and lines I drew. Let's see how it can cover and hide the black dots and lines.

I applied it over on top without blending it. And as you can see it did cover mostly the black lines.

Now this one is when I blended everything. Clearly, it didn't provide full coverage with one layer but if you put multiple layers it can totally hide any imperfections but beware that too much of this may leave your face looking cakey.

Oil test:

Using an oil control film, I put a circle of BB cream and let it sit under the oil film for 5 minutes. The film absorbed the oil from the BB cream, thus the result shows that this BB cream isn't oil free.

From my experience of using this BB cream for almost 2 years now, I can say that I love how this BB cream looks. You know how Korean actresses face makeup during dramas are so flawless and glowy? You can totally achieve that using this BB cream. This gives an absolutely natural and healthy semi-matte finish which is what we're looking for for a base/foundation.

The downsides of this BB cream though are its not oil free and have a grayish tone. I can see slight oiliness on my t-zone after 3 hours of wear. It feels heavy too especially with the humid weather here in Manila. But the thing that still made me love this about this BB cream even after having those cons is that even when you're oily and you sweat, it still holds up pretty well. I can wear this the whole day and right when I remove my makeup there's still a lot of BB cream left on my face, it's like glue because it sticks on your face, so yeah it's long lasting.

The color range is limited. There are exactly 5 shades available. I use the shade no. 23 Natural Beige which is a little dark on me. The next lighter shade is a lot lighter for me so I'm in between shades.

This is me wearing Missha's M Perfect Cover BB Cream. No edit, no filter and I didn't use any concealer, just the BB cream. As you can see, I have a pimple on the upper left of my lip, I also have dark spots on my forehead as well as redness around my nose, but the BB cream seemed to cover all those blemishes. I'm still pretty happy with the coverage this BB cream gives.

PROS

  • Semi-matte finish
  • Medium to full coverage
  • SPF 42 PA+++
  • Long lasting. Lasts for more than 8 hours
  • I recommend this to those who have dry to normal skin
  • Great for everyday use
  • Available online and in malls
  • Affordable price. I asked my friend Inna to buy me the 20ml tube while she was in Korea (Thanks Inna!) so I got it for the original price in Korea. While I bought the 50 ml tube from Kkochipida for only Php 685. In malls, the 20ml retails for Php 799 while the 50 ml retails for Php 1600.

CONS

  • Isn't oil free. Oil starts to show on t-zone area after 3 hours
  • Gals with oily-combo skin can still use this but you have to set this with powder
  • Limited color range. Only 5 shades available
  • Grayish tone
  • Feels heavy especially with the humid weather
  • High SPF content is not good for flash photography

I listed a lot of pros and cons about this BB cream, I'm crazy about it before, but now it's not something I reach out for as often as before. But compared to other BB creams, this is still one of the best performing ones. This is my opinion so, results may vary from person to person. It's better that you try a sample of this before committing yourself to a full size version. Nonetheless, this is still a great BB cream especially if you have dry to normal skin I highly recommend this. If you have wrinkles and dry patches this is a great base to start with. Remember try this for yourself before buying!

Thanks for reading!
